DESI BOYZ - A DESI AFFAIR ;)

Hola People,
Beware, be ready to laugh your guts out at this movie, as it is hilarious and entertaining ;). Having watched this movie a couple of days back, it’s just been a simple case of lethargy which has held me back from blogging. Sometimes when I do sit to write I feel like I want to quit my job and do this full time ;) – well as of now the industry still remains elusive and the idea to work for in a major production is still a dream – a dream come true or not is something I will have to find out with time. Coming back to the central topic of discussion and that is ; “DESI BOYZ”.

DESI BOYZ is veteran film maker Mr. David Dhawan’s son’s maiden directorial venture. Rohit Dhawan has done a decent enough job in making this movie, just that he could have refrained himself from the adage of “lifting” from other films. The most common lift off in a few scenes has been from “WALLSTREET 2”, at least if not a lift off there have been quite many similarities and resemblances. I guess lifting and copying has been a long time sickness or disease with many film makers in the industry, we cannot really undo anything – hahahaha.  DESI BOYZ is a story about 2 friends, who want to get their lives back together as they both have been laid off during the financial crisis of 2008 and as they look around for a decent job they take to becoming “male escorts” and earning their living for the time being. The film is about friendship and the ups and downs of life, the movie unfolds with the shocks of reality and how in real life situations can really stump people unattended.  Although this idea of “male escorts” has never been introduced in earlier movies the industry desperately needs to add more writing talent to improve the freshness of screen writing. Films these days all seem to follow a similar trend in their narrative. Having said this “DESI BOYZ”, has a high entertainment quotient as the use of contemporary dialogues and good screenplay makes this film a good entertainer. Akshay Kumar although jaded in his comic avatar has given a good performance as his character demands a subtle performance. He has played the role of Mr. “Jignesh Jerry Patel” very convincingly and that too with a degree of panache. John Abraham has done a good job as well but somehow I found AKKI boy the best between the 2 during their on screen presence. John delineates his characters in a very different way and that by itself is definitely very unique, and although he John acts well, there is something missing somewhere or maybe I am just being too critical. I loved both Anupam Kher’s role as well as Mr. Sanjay Dutts role, both of these veterans have teethed into their character’s right from the word go and they have done a stupendous job. Deepika Padukone and Chitrangada Singh are both the romantic angle of the script and also display the much needed oomph factor of this filum. Their roles have been quite short but definitely effective in their small way, the whole script is about 2 friends working with each other in times of need. The costume and other props used in this movie were good and it is for this reason that the movie will do good business in the United Kingdom and other western countries because the narrative of the script inculcated the mentality of the global rising Indian Diasporas. The music of the movie is decent made and is foot tapping but the movie is a successful entertainer because of the comic timing of  Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Anupam Kher and Sanjay Dutt. Personally I loved the movie because of the dialogues and screenplay and obviously because of Chitrangada Singh ;) – that lady is super talented and super hot – hahahahahah. The movie will make decent money in the initial weeks but then again collections might fall as the movie does not have the gluey nature for audiences to all go at once.

Watch this movie guys because it’s a good time pass “filum” – paisa vasool hai.  A recent movie that go my head and heart spinning was "THE DIRTY PICTURE".

Cheers :)
Souvik.
