KITES -
Hey People -
Sorry not been a big writer on the bloggosphere as work has taken a toll on me. Enough of me ; its about time and "KITES" has arrived. I am sure all you Ladies out there must have been awaiting the biggest release of the year and that too "A Hrithik Roshan" film ;) well people trust me I too was looking forward for this movie, because I have always believed and felt that given an opportunity Hrithik Roshan would be a great Indian asset off shore as well as his present value on shore. Now, coming back to KITES – being the pseudo proud Bengali that I am I was looking forward to this movie because it’s an Anurag Basu film who directed the previous "Life in a Metro" and "Gangstar" and I enjoyed each of these movies in the past to the fullest. So here we have a double whammy combo whereby you have a veteran producer; Mr. Rakesh Roshan, an energetic and vibrant director ; Mr. Anurag Basu and a phenomenal super star ; Mr. Hrithik Roshan. I have watched the movie and will state something very sincerely that Hollywood should accept that beyond "Slumdog Millionaire" many movies do exist and some are probably much better than many of the Hollywood production's themselves. I am sure many of you guys are going to have 2 minds when discussing KITES – but I have always believed this and will say this again that as an actor one runs the risk of either making a spectacle of himself or walking into the minds and hearts of audiences worldwide. This off course depends on individual perspective but then again and actor and an artiste are very similar in terms of their craft and carving a niche for themselves. Thus movies that many of the audiences ruin by bad mouthing it or just simply letting it go to the trash is where I come in and pinpoint the good signs. I never will perhaps make it to Bollywood in this lifetime so I cherish the moments of cinema that appeals to me and also understand the nuances of an actor and that of a film maker. KITES – is no doubt a cliched love saga where boy meets girl and swipes her off her feet with his charm and good looks and kind hearted nature, and off course you have the bad guys running after you. KITE’s has many cinematic over used cliches but it is a story that is told differently and Anurag Basu has done a brilliant job through his crisp direction and even more sleek cinematography. He is a brilliant filmmaker and knows his craft. Anurag knew damn well that had this movie been treated anything less than the present grandiose opulence then this movie would have been a big big blunder. He had his star cast right with international appealing actors and thus on top of his list arrived our very own Mr. Hrithik Roshan, Kabir Bedi, Kangana Ranaut and Barbara Morri. I think by now people know well that Hrithik is a phenomenon of sorts and even he too will agree that he has an international appeal to his physique and charm which every women would drool over. Barbara Morri is definitely a new face to Indian cinema but not to the camera and definitely not to Hollywood. Barbara knows well her screen presence and thus knows where the camera takes its shots and captures the moments, and she does a brilliant job of a very simple character and her role of Natasha and definitely does a good job. Hrithik as "Jai" has done this role probably to market himself in Hollywood and show to Hollywood that he just like any other international actor probably even much better, and he has moulded his simple character to the fullest. Kabir Bedi, Kangana are brilliant to make their presence felt in the small roles that they have. I guess its their inner confidence and on screen awareness, although a longer part in the story would have been a good too. I am sure many people out there will have a dual mind and different premonition about KITES but one has to accept the fact that this movie is international standard and will make money for the producers. Whether this film makes a home run like "3 Idiots" or "My Name is Khan" but it will definitely be a profitable venture for the producers. Watch it guys because the experience is amazing.
Soouviek.
