HOUSEFUL - We shall have to see !
Hey People -
Seen a few movies but it looks to me that the past recession has forced many people to streamline their productions or was it that they just hired mediocre script writers. I have seen a couple of English films as the IPL season in India did not have that many interesting movies to offer, I was keen on Paatshaala but I really don't know why the team had to release the movie during the IPL season. Now a few English films that I have seen are; "Bounty Hunter" and "Have you heard of the Morgans" - was something that was okay but the later was just too horrible a movie to see. It was my fault I had this dilemma to choose between 2012 or Morgans and I ended up inviting my own nightmare...hahahaha. Anyways that's that for the English movies seems like Cruise and Diaz are expected to come out in a new movie together and I am hopeful that it will be a good one. Just the fact that my very own Bollywood continues to enthral me and woe me like nobody's business. Having said that I missed a surprise hit - Vivek Oberoi's PRINCE - which was apparently extremely amazing on the VFX part as well as the action sequences. Vivek boy always had the talent just that his interest had wondered off or shall I say that he was extremely concerned with his domestic life at home and thus I guess things went a little haywire with him confessing his desire to settle down on a nationwide press conference and the rest till date was definitely part of history. As they say that history does repeat itself and thus after RGV's COMPANY - comes PRINCE *(although I have not seen the film and this strictly by Vivek's charts at the box office.)* Now the talk of the town for at least a couple of months has been HOUSEFUL. Now definitely when you are speaking of both Sajid Khan you know that his hilarious nature always is intrigued to make movies for the masses and not for the intellectual audience. And when one thinks or even see's Sajid Nadiadwalla then they reckon and are known to be in for a treat because just like his opulent lifestyle his movies are larger than life. I know many of my friends as well as online media critics have snubbed the movie but the trade pundit and the cash registers so far have indicated a different picture, but then again last year also when Kambakth Ishq came out people said the same thing that it was a dummy hit and the producers just about broke even. What the truth is really behind the figures is something the trade pundits and insiders would know. On the outside I do enjoy watching movies which are carefree full on entertainers which are meant to relax people from their tension full lives. I really don't know why Indian audiences in India are so harsh. A film is for entertainment and not something that narrates a factual event. In cases where cinema is used as a medium to communicate a message or elaborate an incident I give the audiences the full on benefit that they have their opinion and own criticisms that they can make. This is a branded films which comes heavy with big names from the likes of Mr. Randhir Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Boman Irani, Ritesih Deshmukh, Arjun Rampal, , Chunky Pandey, Manoj Pawaa, Honey IRani Lilette Dubey, Lara Dutta, Deepika Padukone, Jiah Khan and newbie Jacqueline Fernandez. And this is the screen we are talking about, then obviously you have the soundtrack which has caught on with people, then the playback singers who are top notch and the locations which has the epitome of European destinations as well as the best of the best wardrobes for the STARS !!! However it is disappointing to see that all the spices for the film were intact but the main ingredient which the "Story & Screenplay" is something that is very stereotyped and clichéd. The whole script is based solely on the simple theme of an identity confusion which unravels as the narrative become expansive. I understand that the simplicity from Hrishikesh Mukherjee's idea of cinema but then again the dialogues and direction of those days made the difference. The dialogues in the movie are based on contemporary college student dialect and thus the movie will find an immediate connect with the college audiences, the costumes / wardrobes will definitely catch on because the styling done for the lead stars are a little different. On the performance angle Akshay's character is such that he has to be subdued and burdened with the fact that he is born unlucky and a little whimsical, although the character shades of Happy Singh are quite evident he has done well. Lara Dutta has had some great expressions although a big caricature of a guju gal, Deepika has been exhuberant and Jiah Khan and Jacqueline both have a long way to go. The sensibilities for this movie is totally for the entertainment hungry masses and thus HOUSEFUL especially the movie is a good 1 time watch because the ensemble star cast perform to their best although may sequences nuances in the film are clichéd. I don't think that this movie will be a blockbuster such as Singh Is King or 3 Idiots but it should be a breakeven or even a merely profitable venture for the producers.
Watch it if you really have too guys.
Cheers -
Soouviek.
