“ALL THE BEST” – Confusion at its best
The last couple of weeks have been just crazy with the number of production houses coming out with their own eclectic taste for cinema. I love the ending months of every year because it is always fun filled with the box office just gleaming to burst with the exclusive collection of films for the year and surely the year ends with a bang. Brace yourselves because the upcoming days I am going to be not blogging but flogging my web space with just filmi gupshaap – hahahahahaha – I am excited and over the top. Excitement and over the top comic driven sequences is something that builds the foundations of Ajay Devgan’s homes production – “ALL THE BEST”. Even he has gotten into numerology and changed his last name to Devgn, which does have a certain zing to it.
ALL THE BEST is a “filum” that has what it takes for the audience to walk out of the cinema’s and exclaim– “we had a good time! It’s fun yaar, oh and dude, Bipasha Basu and Mughda Godse are sooooo hot” – heheheh. I just thought I exclaim some of the actually lines that maybe rendered by the average movie goer. The story revolves around a central theme of friends being together for the meaning of friendship and that true friends should be there for each other at all times. Even though friendship is the sole theme of the film other themes are also infused into the screenplay of the movie to give the audience the entertainment that they have been dying for. Ajay Devgan plays the role of a whacky car enthusiast who wants to make this super fast car so that that he can sell the plans of the car and make a lot of money to give him and his wife the best married life ever. Fardeen Khan plays the role of a guy who has major spoilt rich kid syndrome and thus lives of his wealthy brother’s money to not only squander the riches for his friends but also to make sure that his band one day becomes the best band ever. Bipasha Basu’s role is that of a simpleton gym instructor who is responsible for her family and is also the person who has to call the shots in the house as her husband has an unstable source of income. Mugdha Godse is the hottie girlfriend of the lead band singer and just wants her boyfriend to get the success he wants, and at the same time she is a vaastu and astrological nerd as well and keeps coming up with the latest remedies for good living and happy life. Sanjay Dutt is the super rich elder step brother of Fardeen Khan and wants his little brother to be the happiest ever, he leaves no stone unturned in maintaining his family’s honour and name. As these are the central characters the movie also has Johnny Lever and Sanjay Mishra doing what they do best and that is HARDCORE COMEDY.
What works magically for ALL THE BEST is the comic driven scenes which are crack crazy and make the audiences laugh to the power of infinity. The dialogues of the movie are very contemporary and it is something what the youth of India would adhere too. The costumes used in the movie give an ensemble feeling to this ensemble star cast which makes the movie a very nice watch. It is fantastic to see that costume is something which many movies concentrate on because it does give out a sense of colour which is always great to see and also adds to the over characterization of the screenplay. The famous saying of your dressing sense describes an individual’s personality is very true and thus it is a vital component of modern day cinema. The movie is shot entirely in GOA which for many Indians is probably the best Indian party capital and thus the beach and sea shores set in the mood of the story of being light minded and enjoyable.
I have to admit to the fact that the story of ALL THE BEST is very foolish because apart from the over emphasis of friendship, family values and the importance of relationships in people’s lives the movie does not have much to offer for the intellectual cinema goer. There are a chalk full of already used typical filmi cliches. However what makes ALL THE BEST work is definitely the acting talents of the ensemble star – cast and definitely both Sanjay Dutt and Sanjay Mishra are just hilarious to infinity. The craziness can be seen as they are totally soaked in their characters and it surely does light up the screen with the magic. The music album is brilliant and some of song sequences have all that is expected of a typical bollywood commercial film, especially a flying Lamborghini used to propose to your lady love is nothing but “radical”.
Go and watch ALL THE BEST because it is “paisa vasool” film, it is a movie that will enthral the audiences by the humour that is actually quite natural and can take place in anyone’s life. I agree that many cinematic liberties have been taken with this film but then again it is an enjoyable experience because of the catchy dialogues and “SANJYA MISHRA” – the guy is a laugh riot. The movie is going to sell and definitely going to be profitable for the producers.
Cheers people - Soouviek :)
