ROCKSTAR - Rocking strart ;) !!!

Hey Guys,

What's up ??? How are we doing ??? hope all of you are upto date with the Bollywood Gupshap ;) As you guys are all aware of my love for the "Industry", a daily dose of www.cnnibn.com/entertainment and http://www.bollywoodhungama.com  is something that I have to have before I go to to sleep at night. Call it "obsessiveness" or "sheer madness" I am a big bolly buff.

Speaking of "bollywood", the new movie in town is "ROCKSTAR". I have to admit that although I have never been a "Ranbir Kapoor" fan, but then again the guy has actually convinced me to like his acting abilities as well as his potential as a good quality actor. I don't agree to this notion that he is the industry's next big thing or a mega star - I personally feel he lacks the humility that is required to achieve the type of super stardom that has been attained and maintained like Aamir, Shah Rukh, Salman or Big B. Anyways before becoming more digressive let me tell you about"ROCKSTAR". To be honest these daysm I have been let down immensely first by "BODYGAURD", "RA.ONE" and now with "ROCKSTAR". I mean BODYGAURD lacked the storyline or anything but yes it had an aura called "SALMAN KHAN" which was entertaining but then again a bit monotonous and also boring as the same style of high octane action sequences are being used to a point where you can predict screenplay. Then came "Ra.One" Vs. "G.One" which had the best special effects for indian cinema ever and offcourse it is a film that has the technological soundness that is easily 5 years ahead, but then again the storyline and plot was a let down. And now we have "ROCKSTAR" which probably has a decent story of the struggling under dog willing to make it big; the story, the plot is appealing to an struggler looking to make it big, as it gives hope that moving forward oneday they too can be a part of the big league ;)

ROCKSTAR has some good twists, good use of contemporary hinglish dialogues, typical Delhi mannerisms induced in the script and screenplay make the charactor of "Janardhan Jhakar" likeable and liveable. Then again the love angle is mystical and hazy, the mental disparity of the two characters are livid in that they both harbour feelings for each other but do not come out in the open with it. I felt very unfazed as this is a hindi movie and it has been assumed that coincident's and incidents are just hand in hand. Imtiaz Ali is a brilliant writer director and definately his movies are all about that element of newness. He did it with Jab We Met, Love Aaj Kaal and now with ROCKSTAR he has struck the right tunes but kindda screwed up the narrative. The movie keeps going in flashback modes without too much continuity and although there is a serious tone to the film the comic relief sets the tension loose. Then again the story is not captivating at all. Ranbir Kapoor has acted stupendously well and he deserves the right applause as he has earned it. He is a directors actor and he has shown that he has the ability to decipher the director's and writers vision of story. Nargis Fakhri will go a long way and then drop because she is good eye candy but then again has be taught the craft and skill of acting, the supporting starcast all were quite formidable in their characters and the original "Rockstar" of hindi cinema "Mr Shammi Kapoor" was awesome. A.R. Rahman's music is sufiyana rock and is good to the ears as well as Mohit Chauhan's soothing voice. Personally for me "ROCKSTAR" is a good decent watch but definately the movie could have been much better with a bit of fine tuning.

The movie will have a good opening and also be a break even investment proposition for it's investors as the movie will not run away as a blockbuster hit. It should do average to above average business.

Cheers :)
Souvik.
