Raavan - was the real devil at the box office !
Well to be honest guys - this is definitely one of the movies which I was looking forward too ! Now was I impressed - well to a certain extent yes ! but not thoroughly. I mean Mani Sir - definitely did raise the bar with GURUBHAI being an epitome fictional bio epic of the late legendary Mr. Dhirubhai Ambani. One would have expected that movies of relevance from history would not interest audiences but the craft and technique of Mani Sir is just super.
Raavan on technical grounds is flawless - the cinematography, the action sequences as well as the locations are nothing less than super duper. The flaw that was quite evident is the forceful pairing of Mr. & Mrs. Bachchan. Aishwariya has a certain panache to the way she carries herself and she does mould herself to every character given to her. Honestly I think that her difference in character screenplay is thanks to the director who extracts the best. Vikram is a good actor and this I know because he has done well in some of the Tamil movies of his which I have seen. However Aby just went forward extended his role of Laalan from Yuva, this was a letdown whether Mani Sir's choice for Bheera was Abhishek in the first place is something which Mani sir only knows because seeing the film made me feel that Abhishek probably took a lot of tips from Vikram who played Bheera in the Tamil version. However it's difficult to determine this and I doubt if this was the single most reason for the movie to not do well.
The narrative and screen play were just too intense which is very necessary for the story idea and plot pertaining to mythology and Indian history. According to me I just do not think that the story was a good idea for a movie in the first place. It looks like it's become a fad now to include, interpret the ancient historic relevance's in modern day stories - Rajneeti being a appropriate example of this. On the whole definitely Raavan is technically sound in all aspects of the case, from the visuals, to the sound editing to the intensity of background scores. The story and screenplay along with plot is something that is quite demanding by itself and thus an all out film for the movie connoisseur. For the masses this will be a letdown - and a huge round of applause to all the actors to have worked under the murky and slushy conditions of the jungles.
